When a tooth becomes severely damaged or decayed, you may end up needing a root canal. To seal off the tooth, dentists often use dental crowns. These tooth-shaped caps cover the entire visible part of a tooth to help it regain its structure, function, and aesthetics. They can also be used to correct things like small teeth and discoloration. Losing a dental crown can be alarming, and it may be difficult to know what to do next. Step #1: Contact Your Dentist<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first thing you should do when you\u2019ve lost a dental crown is to contact your dentist. Explain to them what happened and how. They will be able to walk you through the next steps, including scheduling an appointment and what to do in the meantime. If the incident occurs before or after your dentist\u2019s office hours, listen to their voicemail to see if it gives you information about what to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step #2: Locate the Crown<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After calling your dentist, look for the dental crown. If you\u2019re able to locate it, store it in a plastic sandwich bag or a safe container. Be sure to bring it with you to your dental appointment. Your dentist will see if they\u2019re able to reuse it.
