While this was fairly effective at brightening a smile due to the ammonia in this bodily fluid, it wasn\u2019t great for the patient\u2019s breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Medieval Barber\u2019s Teeth Whitening Method<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the medieval period, dentistry and surgery were considered to be the job of the local barber. Unfortunately, they had no formal training, so they used a rather barbaric method to whiten their patients\u2019 teeth. First, they would use a file to rough up their patient\u2019s enamel to create more surface area, and then they would coat the teeth with strong nitric acid. While this was effective at whitening a person\u2019s teeth, it also painfully eroded the enamel, setting them up for tooth decay down the line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Modern Teeth Whitening Treatments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thankfully, your local dentist has all the training they need to provide you with a comfortable and effective teeth whitening treatment.
